Little Valley 'summerhouse'
Details
This exceptional architecturally designed home was crafted by the owner over 2 years and is new in 2025.
The design is sophisticated, yet the primary motivation was about maximising the beautiful Hunter Valley weather across all seasons. It faces north with floor to ceiling windows, a large open breezeway and two outdoor areas.
At any time, staying by this beautiful pond surrounded by pristine bushland, natural wildlife and farm animals makes it deeply rewarding and relaxing.
This small home is the 2nd on this 50 acre farm, the other being occupied by the owner. The two houses are a short distant apart with bushes in-between. It is a working farm so some jobs are everyday, however your privacy is secured through the orientation of the building overlooking the pond.
Our farm operates entirely on solar power, promoting a sustainable lifestyle. The summerhouse is designed with passive solar principles to enhance its beautiful location and minimise the need for artificial heating and cooling.
While there’s no air conditioning, ceiling fans are provided, and the home's orientation helps regulate temperature naturally. We’ll share efficient management tips upon check-in as it does require human intervention.
Summer can be hot, and Winter will be cold in the Hunter Valley, so please be prepared for all weather elements.
Please ensure our off-grid farm meets your needs as outlined in the listing below before proceeding with the booking. While the home is very modern and comfortable, being off-grid does have some limits in appliance usage, especially at night.
Wollombi Valley is surrounded by State Forests and National Parks, making it relatively isolated from major conveniences. You will need to plan ahead.
The Trading Post Laguna, our charming local food & wine bar, is just 5 km away, and Wollombi Village is a short 10-minute drive. The villages are tiny yet have enough good food venues so you don't have to leave the Wollombi area.
Our farm is located 40 minutes from Broke and the famous Pokolbin vineyards. It is great to visit those places but if you want to stay in 'wine region' you are better off booking a place closer to those areas.
Access to our farm involves a 1 km dirt track, which helps provide seclusion and bush-land charm. We reside on-site near the summerhouse, (refer to photo), tending to our livestock each morning and afternoon. Guests are encouraged to join us during these times for a hands-on experience of farm life and to better appreciate the nature of the place.
Our listing is thoughtfully detailed, and we encourage you to read it thoroughly to ensure our property aligns with your needs.
*We understand that our unique setting isn’t for everyone, and that’s okay—we aim to host like-minded guests who share our appreciation for the remoteness, bushland, and natural beauty that make our farm so special.
[ About us ] We live on-site up the hill behind the summerhouse. We are not a 'country estate' or a resort; instead, we embrace the beauty of our surroundings and enjoy creating beautiful things.
We take pride in doing nearly everything as part of our independent lifestyle on our land. We offer an authentic experience of nature on a small working farm. Our focus is not on luxury but a genuine connection with the environment.
In 2023, our glamping Red Rattler Train Carriage was proudly nominated as one of the BEST UNIQUE STAYS across Australia. While it remains offline as we focus on the summerhouse, it remains a cherished part of our farm's story.

‘summerhouse’ the open breezeway design opens to a body of water that sparkles in the light and is a hive of activity with fish and wildlife. The open-plan living and indoor/outdoor dining area make time slip away as you eat, drink, and hang out with your partner or friends.
The building was designed by architect Matt Elkan and crafted by the owner, Euan Wilcox, over two years. It was a labour of love and a culmination of a lifelong goal to build a beautiful physical space.
The site provides another unique aspect to our small 50-acre farm. Sitting by the water and looking towards the paddocks, it is both serene and fascinating, with never-ending activity. You’ll see the fish in the foreground with the Alpaca, Donkeys, local Wallaroo and Birdlife going about their day.
Floor-to-ceiling windows bathe the interior with light, and the winter sun penetrates the entire area. In summer, deep overhangs and double-glazed windows moderate extremes. Light sparkles on the ceilings in all seasons as it reflects off the water.

Other things to note
**This is a brand-new building, and we're excited to see it grow and evolve. The gardens have just been planted, and the grass seed is freshly sown, promising a lush future. True to our ethos, we prefer to craft or recycle furniture rather than purchase it from chain stores, adding unique character and sustainability to the space. Bringing this place fully to life is a journey, and we embrace every step.
We’ll update this page regularly with new images and details on our booking pages. However, please keep in mind that some elements may evolve as this space continues to develop and flourish.
